A little about myself

Bonjour, my name is Frédéric Devos, born 19/03/1985, husband, father of 3, chiropractor and a recreational triathlete.

My obsession with sports probably started before I was born, when my mother competed in raquetball with me in her tummy. As a kid I loved running and, above all, I was obsessed with any ball-shaped object, basketball, football, tennisball, handball, all the same. I ended up joining a tennis club, a football club, ran track and field for a couple of years. Meanwhile, it came natural to me that I wanted to do what my parents were doing: chiropractic.

After secundary school, autumn of 2003, I took a gap year out of school, and went to Viborg, Denmark. There, I stayed in a sports school for 4 months. My 2 main subjects were: tumbling (gymnastics) and outdoor multisport. Here is where I got a first taste of duathlon and triathlon. It was clear that triathlon was now my thing. I had fallen in love with the sport. From then on, If I’d be exercising, I’d be training for triathlon.
At one point, we went to a sports school gathering, where we would compete against other schools in various disciplines. We played football, I did the high jump comp, won the hurdles comp, and… entered the sprint triathlon. The seamless succession of swim-bike-run was an exciting new for me. Unfortunately, I punctured 3 miles into the bike leg. As I had to run 3 miles back to the venue, I got a sense of how a triathlon felt after all. Another crazy event 3 of us did was a 14-hour team adventure race, which was held by our school every year, and included mountainbiking, running, some canoeing and map reading. My muscles were so sore, I was forced to go down stairs backwards for 3 days. An unforgettable experience, that event was.

Since 2005, I have done loads of endurance challenges, mostly triathlons, but also separate disciplines.
